Google Fi is making it easier to stay connected with a suite of new features designed to improve everyday communication. The updates, announced this week, focus on using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance call clarity, upgrade messaging, and simplify billing.
The most notable upgrade is coming to your phone calls. Soon, Google Fi will use AI to actively reduce background noise on your calls. Whether you’re in a noisy airport or a bustling coffee shop, this feature aims to make your voice sound clearer to the person on the other end, even if they’re using a landline or an older mobile device. The goal is to create more natural-sounding conversations without you having to raise your voice.
This AI-enhanced audio will be activated by default for users, but you can choose to turn it off if you prefer. It is scheduled to begin rolling out next month.
For those who prefer texting, Google is also bringing the full power of RCS (Rich Communication Services) to its “Messages for web” platform. This means when you’re texting from your computer, you’ll be able to share high-resolution photos and videos directly within the message thread without losing quality. This welcome update is expected to arrive in December.
Staying connected on the go is also getting easier. Google Fi is significantly expanding its Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ feature, which automatically switches you to a premium, reliable Wi-Fi network in crowded locations.
“We’re expanding this to millions of locations, including major airports like LAX and JFK, and participating shopping malls,” explained Jane Harnett, Senior Product Manager at Google Fi Wireless. “It works automatically, is included at no extra cost, and we’re the only major carrier that automatically secures your online activity with an encrypted connection on these networks.”
You’ll know you’re on a secured Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ network when you see a “W+” icon in your phone’s status bar.
Finally, to bring more transparency to your monthly bill, the Google Fi app will use AI to provide personalized summaries. These easy-to-understand breakdowns will explain your charges, highlight changes from the previous month, and even illustrate how plan adjustments could affect your future costs.
For businesses or individuals looking to integrate seamless, AI-powered communication tools, contacting TCU for a connectivity consultation can help streamline your operations.
As part of this announcement, Google Fi is also launching a limited-time promotion. New subscribers who bring their own phone can get 50% off for 15 months when they join either the “Unlimited Essentials” or “Unlimited Plan.”
