Adobe’s New AI Tools Simplify Design and Complex Edits

Adobe is significantly advancing its creative toolkit with the introduction of sophisticated new AI assistants for Adobe Express and Photoshop. This move goes beyond simply adding a chatbot; it represents a strategic effort to integrate AI in ways that match how different creators actually work.

The goal is clear: to make professional-grade design and editing more intuitive and less time-consuming for everyone, from students to seasoned professionals.

Interestingly, Adobe is deploying its AI assistants in two distinct ways, tailored to each application’s unique workflow.

For Adobe Express, the company is introducing a dedicated “Assistant Mode.” Instead of a permanent sidebar, users can switch into this full-screen, text-based environment to generate new images and designs using simple prompts. When they’re ready for fine-tuning, they can switch back to the traditional editing interface with all its familiar tools and controls.

“This dual-mode approach gives users the best of both worlds,” explained Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s Vice President of Generative AI. “It makes advanced AI technology both highly accessible and gives creators full control over their process.”

Meanwhile, for the complex, layer-based environment of Photoshop, the new assistant (currently in closed beta) takes its place in the familiar sidebar. Here, it acts as a smart collaborator that can understand your document’s structure. The assistant can automatically select intricate objects, create precise masks, and perform repetitive tasks like background removal with a simple text command.

Adobe’s vision extends beyond these individual features. The company is also experimenting with “Project Moonlight,” an ambitious initiative to create a master assistant that can coordinate across different Adobe tools. This AI would learn a creator’s unique style by connecting to their social channels, potentially offering personalized suggestions and automating multi-app workflows. Project Moonlight is currently in early private beta.

Furthermore, Adobe is exploring a direct bridge between Express and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This integration would allow users to generate and refine designs directly within the ChatGPT interface, blending the power of language models with Adobe’s design engine.

In a significant shift, Adobe is opening Photoshop’s “Generative Fill” feature to third-party AI models. Users can now choose from options like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext for tasks like object removal or image extension. This gives creators more flexibility and creative control over their AI outputs.

For video editors, Premiere Pro is receiving an AI-powered object mask, enabling users to easily identify and track objects or people within a clip to apply effects or color corrections with unprecedented ease.

How Can Your Business Leverage This New AI Technology?

Staying ahead of the curve in digital design and marketing is crucial. The integration of AI into industry-standard tools like Adobe’s suite is changing the game, enabling faster production times and unlocking new creative possibilities.
